1 - Introduce yourself:

My name is Kellette Elliott from kelletteworks. I am a high school art teacher from Oregon, USA. Before teaching, I was a professional graphic designer and animator, but my true passion is in the classroom with my students and making art with them.

2 - Which artists inspire you and why?

Hollie Chastain has really opened my eyes up to collage.

Robert Rauschenberg opened my eyes to mixed media.

Lisa Congdon inspires me to be positive and uplifting in my work.

3 - What’s the most important thing to know about you? (3 most important things, not necessarily related to work)

I love the outdoors, that is my happy place! I feel like I can escape in the outdoors from everyday life. I love to make people smile. Whether it’s my jokes, my artwork, or just listening. I like to make people feel good. I love traveling the world. I feel fortunate to see so many amazing places around the world with my husband, and that’s constantly an inspiration for me.

4 - What qualities and skills should a designer have?

Willing to take risks. Understand and appreciate what is around them. Always willing to learn and grow.

5 - What are you most proud of?

Right now, it’s this resolution to make art 6 times a week for 2018. I wanted to be a role model for my students in making art regularly and I have stuck to it. It’s lead to amazing opportunities, and my students are seeing not only their teacher-but a working artist.

6 - What advice would you give for a young designer?

Be a sponge. Learn from others, study, and try new things.
